A Hookah(also called a water pipe) is a device for smoking that has been around for 600 years or more and
it's design has remained very much intact from it's beginning.

However the modern version has some great contemporary enhancements.

The ancient smoke of choice came from harsh tobacco(called shisha) and contrary to the myth perpetrated by what you might have seen portrayed in the movies, it has nothing to do with any illegal substances.

Over the decades, flavors were added to cut the harshness of the tobacco and make it more enjoyable.

The modern shisha though is now more about the flavors rather than the tobacco. 

While you can still smoke tobacco through the Hookah, people are more inclined these days to skip the tobacco in favor of tobaccoless, pure, organic flavors like Cherry, Grape. Bubble Gum, Strawberry Lemonade and others.

A Hookah experience is customized by choosing the flavor that you like for smoking and adding a dessert or glass of wine or beer or one of a dozen organic teas.

Many countries have large parts of the population that partake in smoking Hookah, including Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon,  Jordan and Turkey. 

A Hookah is enjoyed as follows:

The server will bring the Hookah to your table and place the flavor tablet and a lighted charcoal in it.
When you inhale through the fresh plastic mouthpiece, the flavored smoke is forced in through the holes
in the top of the Hookah head.
The smoke travels down the shaft and into the water.
The water cools the temperature of the smoke and makes a bubbling sound.
The smoke carries out of the water and into the Hookah hose.
The smoke is inhaled and exhaled by the person who is Hookah smoking!

With a glass of wine, some friends and food, and a ten foot projection television, you've got the makings of
a fun night out.  You must be 18 years old or older of course because it's served in an adult beverage environment.
